16th French Film Festival
Two words: FREE.ADMISSION :P
Last night, I watched “Les Marquis” in Shangri-la Mall with two of my VG friends. Initially, I thought it would be one of those weird foreign films with horrible subtitles, but was actually surprised at how funny the film turned out. Most of the scenes were shot in Cebu and although our very own Joel Torre sounded a bit “barok”, seeing familiar spots and faces gave me a sense of “Pinoy Pride”.

If you are a film enthusiast, you may catch other contemporary French Films at Shangri-la Plaza, Cinema 4. The festival will run until June 19.
Here’s a list of the other featured films:
In “L’autre” (The Other One), Anne-Marie breaks up with her long-time beau. She becomes insanely jealous upon learning of the new woman in Alex’s life.
“La Tête de Maman” (Mother’s Smile), on the other hand, shows Lulu and her mother’s struggles. The protagonist tries to bring back together her mother and her former lover.
“Un Poison Violent” (Love Like Poison) is a tale about conflicting loves.
“Dernier des Fous” (The Last among the Crazy Ones), meanwhile, focuses on 11-year-old Martin’s lonely vacation. While there, he witnesses how his family crumbles.
“Les Enfants de Timpelbach” (Trouble at Timpeltill) shows prank-loving children left without their parents.
“Dans les Cordes” (Inside the Ring) shows the rivalry between sisters Angie and Sandra in the boxing ring.
“7 Ans” (7 Years) is a heartbreaking tale about a prisoner and his wife. The latter later begins an affair with a prison guard.
“Adèle: Rise of the Mummy” is an adaptation of the adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec, a popular French comic book during the 1970s.
“Arthur 2: The Revenge of Maltazard” is another adaptation of Luc Besson’s best-selling children’s book. It is a follow-up to the box-office hit “Arthur and the Minimoys”.
“À Nos Amours” (To Our Loves) shows the tale of a 15-year-old girl who offers herself to random men for acceptance.
“Sans Toit Ni Loi” (Vagabond) explores the mystery of a girl named Mona who is found frozen to death in a ditch. People surrounding her try to recapture her story.
“La Cérémonie” (A Judgment in Stone) shows the tale of mentally and physically handicapped Sophie and Jeanne.
“Mademoiselle” tells the tale of Claire who makes a connection with an actor in only 24 hours.
“Elle S’appelle Sabine” (Her Name is Sabine) is a documentary about an autistic.
In “Joueuse” (Queen to Play), wife and mother Hélène finds her identity via the game of chess.
